Gestüt Fährhof

A showcase for thoroughbreds

In the beginning there were 70 hectares of land and a passion for horses. Fährhof´ s founder Walther J. Jacobs started off breeding warm-bloods but soon recognised that his stud was ideal for breeding the faster and nobler animal – the thoroughbred. As a result of his shrewd purchases of bloodstock, both in Germany and abroad, Fährhof quickly established itself in the ranks of leading owners and breeders and soon the black and yellow colours were a familiar scene on German racecourses. Tristan was the first homebred winner in 1965 and in 1977 came the first Fährhof winner of the Deutsches Derby, Surumu, later to establish himself as an outstanding sire. The resident stallions are now Black Sam Bellamy, Lomitas, SABIANGO and Königstiger and from 2008 Lateral, champion two-year-old and champion miler, is also standing as a stallion in the wonderful surroundings at Sottrum.
