Gestüt Röttgen

Stud farm as foundation

Gestüt Röttgen is a part of the “Land- und Forstwirtschaftliche Betriebe Röttgen“ (Röttgen agricultural and forestry holdings). It was founded in 1924 by Peter Paul Mülhens, whose daughter Maria Mehl-Mülhens ran the stud as her life’s passion. On average it has 30 broodmares. The resident stallions are Soldier Hollow (four times Gr.1 winner) and Kallisto (Gr. 1 winner). Several well-established families can be found here: the “A” family, which has been represented by Anna Paola (Gr. 2), Aspros (Gr. 2), Annus Mirabilis (Gr. 1), Anna of Saxony (Gr. 3), Fraulein (Gr. 1), Aspectus (Gr. 2), and most recently Smooth Oparator (Gr. 3). Another typical Röttgen family is the “W” line, which has been represented in recent years by Well Proved (Gr. 2), Well Known (Gr. 2), Walesiana (Gr. 2), Well Made (Gr. 1), Welluna (Gr. 2), Zahrat Dubai (Gr. 1) and Well Chief (NH Gr. 1). The third family which has been especially successful in Germany in recent years is the “D” family, which traces back to mares imported from Hungary in the 1960’s. Examples of this family are the champion 2-year-olds Diasprina (Gr. 2), Desidera (Gr. 2), as well as Diacada (Gr. 2) and Dalicia (Gr. 3).
